St. Stephen’s Cathedral is  the heart and geographical center of Vienna.  The original church was built over  900 years ago in Romanesque style  and enlarged later in Gothic style. There are  many legends surrounding  the building of the Gothic cathedral and one of them even  includes a  pact with the devil.

At the end of WWII the  cathedral caught fire  and was almost completely destroyed. The rebuilding was  financed by all  9 federal states in Austria and took 15 years.
